More than 3,600 Volvo S80s have been recalled due to incorrect tire information in the owner’s manual and encoded on the tire pressure monitoring system. The recalled model years are 2007-2010.
For S80s with the V-6 powertrain, the owner’s manual, the loading information label on the doorjamb and the monitoring system set a maximum tire pressure of 35 pounds per square inch, but it should be 36 psi. The pressure for the V-8 model is set at 36 psi instead of the correct 38 psi maximum.
Incorrect tire pressure is a serious safety concern. Properly inflated tires are essential for safety. Not having the proper tire pressure can cause issues with braking, cornering and stability limits. It could also cause tires to fail completely. In addition to safety concerns, improper pressure can diminish expected fuel economy.
Volvo advised that no complaints have been submitted but that company engineer’s discovered the problem. Volvo dealers will update vehicle software, loading information and owner’s manual information free of charge.
