This is especially true in a nursing home setting where patients need ongoing care, but it is simply not practical to have the doctor there full-time. Nurses are responsible for promptly notifying doctors of abnormal lab results and changes in the patient’s condition. Doing so allows the doctors to initiate care and ensure the well-being of the resident.
