Fatal bridge construction accident

Comments Off

One bridge worker was killed and another injured when the crewboat they were in was struck by a barge being pushed by a tugboat. Authortities were investigating whether the tug boat lights were operating properly.

The worker who was killed suffered massive abdominal, chest, and head injuries. The injured worker suffered internal injuries and weas hospitalized.

Because this accident occurred on open water, the liability concepts that would apply would be under admiralty law, which makes this case very different from a standard negligence case. Admiralty law is very different from ordinary negligence cases even though some of the same principles would apply, such as operating a vessel with lights on when it is dark out. Nonetheless, anyone who is involved in an accident on open water would be well-advised to contact an attorney.
