Oak Lawn nursing home under investigation for neglect

Comments Off

Police and the medical examiner are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 71 year old man. The man, a resident of an Oak Lawn nursing home, died after being transferred from the nursing home to Christ Hospital.

Officials stated that neglect appeared to be a factor in the man’s death.

I am presently representing the family of another former resident of the facility which is under investigation. The essential allegation against the facility is that the facility failed to care for the resident properly, leading to a pressure sore which was a cause of the resident’s death. My investigation revealed that the nursing home had previously received a number of citations against it from the Illinois Department of Public Health, including some relating to pressure sores.

Anyone considering placing a loved one in a nursing home should be careful to check the Illinois Department of Public Health web site. It allows you to view any citations that were issued aganist the nursing home. The fact that a nursing home has a citation against it does not necessarily mean that it is a bad facility. However, the presence of multiple citations for deficient care or the issuance of a single citation involving care deficiencies which affect multiple residents should be a red flag
