East Peoria nursing home raided

Comments Off

A police raid on an East Peoria nursing home resulted in the arrests of four residents and one staff member on outstanding warrants. The four residents, all under the age of 60, were wanted on a variety of court charges. Police also identified a number of other residents who were wanted on other charges, but were not arrested because police did not have arrest warrants.

The raid came as an autopsy showed that another resident died as a result of brain trauma caused by a fall in the last month.

One area of growing concern in the nursing home industry is the placement of younger, more able-bodied but mentally ill residents with a traditional geriatric patient population. The great risk of this is that the older residents may be unable to adequately protect themselves against aggressive behavior of the younger residents.

This is not to say that the death of this lady was caused by one of the younger residents, but this facility seems to be headed for disaster, with the residents unfortunately feeling the worst of the effects of this.
