Worker run over at construction site

Comments Off

A California man was killed at a construction site when the dump truck he was directing ran over him. The driver lost sight of the worker and did not know where he was until he felt the wheels pass over the top of the worker.

The man died hours later of the crush injuries from being run over.

All trucks have blind spots. It is up to the driver to know where those blind spots are and to not move his vehicle until he is sure that there is no one in the blind spots. Only then is it safe to move forward (or in reverse, as the case may be).

In this case the driver knew that the man was in the direction of travel, but lost sight of him. Under those circumstances, he was required to stop until he knew that his path of travel was clear. Unfortunately, he did not.
