Joliet drunk driver hits ambulance

Comments Off

In Joliet last weekend, a drunk driver blew a stop light and hit an ambulance which was taking a heart attack patient to the hospital. The ambulance rolled over and hit two other vehicles which were waiting for it to clear the intersection.

The heart attack patient died later at the hospital. Authorities are trying to determine whether the accident played a role in his passing. The ambulance crew also had to get medical treatment.

There are certain kinds of cases which really cry out for punitive damages. Hitting an ambulance while it is transporting a patient to the hospital is one, even if you do it sober. Doing it while you are drunk makes punitive damages and possible jail time seem like no punishment at all. Everyone who is in need of urgent medical care deserves a fair shot at getting to the hospital for needed medical care.
